Older Women’s Co-Housing (OWCH) is an organisation based in the UK which was founded by Shirley Meredeen and Madeleine Levius in 1998.  18 years on and OWCH is eagerly awaiting the opening of a community style apartment block in North London exclusively designed for female residents.  The 25 residents who are all over 50 years of age wish to create their own community and actively manage the establishment whilst supporting one another at this time of their life.  Sharing a common room, guest suite , garden and laundry the concept of co-housing was based on a model in Holland.

Please click on the link to read the full article published recently on the Donaldson Sisters website and ask yourself the question “Would you share your house with 25 other women?” For more information about this innovative organisation please refer to their website link provided.

A Night to Remember

by seniorsownblog In Events

14. October 2016 09:18

Seniors Own Real Estate were delighted to attend the 2016 MercyCare Oration with special guest Munjed Al Muderis. The highlight of the evening was meeting this courageous man who is one of the world’s leading orthopaedic surgeons.  Hearing about his astonishing life story was truly awe inspiring.  He fled Baghdad in 1999 as a junior surgeon in Saddam Hussein’s medical centre after being ordered to amputate the ears of military deserters.  Surviving a treacherous boat trip to Christmas Island on a smuggler boat he then spent months at the Curtin detention centre in northern WA known only as the number 982.  Now he lives in Australia and performs revolutionary surgery called “osseointegration” to patients who have lost limbs.

Seniors Own Real Estate are pleased to be supporters of MercyCare and it was wonderful to be part of such an insightful evening.
